<description>First and foremost: To thine own self be true ! I understand and congratulate you for changing the direction in which your life was headed. As you mentioned, people seem to gravitate to learned behavior. Healthy or not. We repeat it because it is our comfort zone and we understand through experience how to deal with the realities of it. Change is the scary unknown and it justifies our fears for taking no action. It is only someone else at fault the first time it happens, then it becomes a choice unless you are too young to remove yourself from the situation. I too chose poorly many times in my life. Looking for instant gratification in hopes of constructing a relationship instead of the opposite. My turning point was 15 years ago. I took pen in hand and compiled a list of what I truly wanted in a relationship and what was unacceptable. I listed them on two sides of a piece of paper. On the positive side I listed love, fidelity, honor, laughter etc. on the negative side, well you get the picture. In a moment of clarity I came to realize I could not hope to attract a women of character and substance unless I worked on these things within myself that painfully glared back at me from my home made list. I found many things on both sides of the list to address within my own make up. I consciously went to work to have some of the negatives move into the positive column while honestly evaluating and cleaning house on the rest. It&#039;s amazing what happens when you become accountable for your part in it all and willing to accept and attempt change. Two weeks after I started working on my list I met a really nice person who turned out to be my best friend. We&#039;ve been together now almost 15 years and Gail and I will be married for twelve laughter filled years in March. Hmmm, change, wow, what a concept !!
Be well Lori
Love ya
